There is a vein that runs like a river through Leibow's body of work, depicting the figure through sculpture, collage and anachronistic media. Not quite photography, not quite painting, not exactly sculpture and - many works are not perfectly permanent.
A documentary video on his archival art was in the Metropolitan Museum of Arts (program for art on film) for 10 years through out the 90's, along with selected works for books and exhibitions by curators form the Whitney Museum and Met.
Leibow writes poetry, at times integrates the written word into his work. He has created art for recording artist Bruce Springsteen's world tour, books and helped brand his concerts. His public arts project includes multiple storefront window displays attempts to turn a town's main street into open space gallery during the vacancy period after the 2008 economic down turn to boost their economy, along with a mural integrated with poetry, standing sixteen feet high spanning two blocks in Leonia N.J.
